
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Biography
San-Francisco-based artist Kristin Grahn specializes in oil painting and mixed media. She was born in Seattle, WA and studied Studio Art and Sociology at Whitman College.
Ms. Grahn fell in love with San Francisco in 1993, during a summer project spent tutoring inner-city youth. The city's multiculturalism, progressiveness and distinctive landscape continue to delight her today. In 1996 she relocated to the Bay Area to pursue a career in fine art, and eventually earned her M.F.A. from the Academy of Art University.
Her work has appeared in group exhibitions at O'Hanlon Center for the Arts, SomArts Gallery, 111 Minna and California Modern Gallery, among others. Solo exhibitions include San Francisco's University Club, Acabello, and Thirsty Bear. In 2007, Grahn received a Juror's Choice award at ArtSpan's Spring Benefit Show. She painted commissions for the San Francisco Ritz-Carlton and the Houston St. Regis in 2008.
Ms. Grahn has developed an artistic style that reflects her contemporary urban life. She draws inspiration from found shapes in everyday environments. Through shared visual elements, she fuses together diverse objects and reveals and underlying sense of order amid the city's tumultous streets.
